Adaptive Compression Engine
Hi All,
According to ACE literature, hardware compression module handles the compression/decompression of the data. I have a question regarding Hardware Compression Module of VMAX All-Flash array.
- Does the Hardware Compression Module determine the status of the data (active/idle, hot/cold) or Is it determined by the CPU?

That is correct. The HYPERMAXOS also manages the hardware compression module.

Hi
It is the core software in the operating environment running on the array - HYPERMAXOS for VMAX All Flash and PowerMaxOS for PowerMax that determines the status of the data. The management software that queries the array to get the status.

Thanks, for the reply. Your answer clarified the things that the status of the data is determined by the HypermaxOS. Now I would like to know, does HypermaxOS also manage the hardware compression module?

Thanks, It means various ACE features like activity based compression, optimized data placement all are also managed by HypermaxOS.

Yes, exactly.
