Correct Process for Using SRDF Compression on GigE Boards?

The array is a pair of VMAX 20K with Gige boards for RDF connectivity.  Noticed that compression is not enabled on the RDF group.  The question is the proper procedure to enable compression.

Should this be done using symconfigure on the GigE RDF port first and then enable it on the RDF group using symrdf?

Enable both HW and SW levels?

Impact of doing this while SRDFA is running ?

Thanks !

RDF compression has to be enabled for the RE in the bin first, then you can enable RDF SW and HW compression using symconfigure:

  set rdf group xx rdf_hw_compression=Enable;

  set rdf group xx rdf_sw_compression=Enable;

The setting is non-disruptive and you need to enable HW compression on the R1 and R2 side.

As (my best colleague) AranH pointed out, This is a non disruptive change. You should enable compression on either the SYMMs (R1 & R2) or the switches not both and also enable one type of  compression either sw or hw. Enabling both is not recommended. In your situation, I would recommend HW compression. SW compression will be used for relatively slow links.

Hope that helps
