Re: TDEV Provisioning [VMAX All-Flash]

I see. How about read-only permissions, is it possible?

Now regarding NAS, from what I know it is supported by the all-flash. Would you recommend creating a volume accessed by the SMB/Samba protocols with the data rather than provisioning it over SAN?

Re: TDEV Provisioning [VMAX All-Flash]

Technically, Read-Only is possible. However I'm not sure what good a RO volume is to 750 clients.

NAS exports are possible on VMAX AF if it was ordered with embedded NAS, eNAS. And yes, this would be a much better solution for sharing a volume between unclustered hosts.

I need all 750 of them to see 1TB of the same information and want it to be read-only. Wouldn't it be better for SAN because of better performance?

Dear LearnEveryThing,

It's great that you have reached out to the community forums to ask these questions and learn about VMAX. In this thread you have advice from two experienced contributors that your SAN proposal for 750 hosts for a single luns has a high probability for issues (data corruption) and far from good practice. Please consider this as a red flag. Given your level of experience, my advice is to consult with your local Dell EMC team and discuss the problem you are trying to solve and let them help determine the most appropriate solution for you.

Understood. Just wanted to get to the "why" and not just accept given information.

Thanks anyway, you've been very helpful.
