Using SPA to export SYM data in the BTP format

A few days ago we had quite a bit of a slow-down on our Netapp Filers which use Disks on our VMaxes and I was advsed to run an export in a BTP format for certain criteria on the Arrays.

I have looked through SPA as much as I could with my limited knowledge and am unable to find a method by which I can do this export.

I would really appreciate any help someone would care to throw my way.

Peace.

Dynamox,

Thank you for being so helpful. The “reply” button on the Support site won’t let me do a reply there hence this e-mail.

Problem is when I do the drop down like you mentioned in the Output Format all I can see is XML and CSV, it doesn’t show me any other options, maybe I haven’t installed a module I should have.

The workaround I used, was to browse the File system on the server and found the files (BTP) under my WLA Archive directory, which I have sent for analysis. Sent the file with the date on which I had the error. Hopefully it contains the reason for the slow-down.

Thanks again sir, just noticed I raised a Q about a year ago anf you were the same person who responded to that one too.

To export the SPA data to a .BTP file:

  1. Select Query view from the Administration menu to open the Query Management dialog box. All previously defined queries display in the Query Management table.
  2. Click New to open the Define Query dialog box.
  3. Enter a Name for the query. Query names can be up to 32 characters.
  4. Enter a Description of the query. It is important to provide a description that will help identify the query when it displays in the Query Management list.
  5. Select the output Format (BTP).

For data exports, SPA automatically sets the Type as Diagnostic and the Format as Average.

  1. Select the Time Range for the query. Selecting Custom from the available ranges opens the Custom Time Range dialog box, from which you can set the time range.

  2. Select the Symmetrix ID.
  3. Optional: Select Scheduled to open the calendar and enter the start date and time for ongoing queries. Ongoing queries are only available for non-custom Time Ranges.
  4. Click OK.

Yep looks so, I’ll see if I can upgrade, but I guess this will all be linked to ECC which will need updating as well.

If you were to upgrade to the latest SMS 7.3.3/SPA 2.3.3 then you would need to upgrade to symcli 7.4. Do check if your version of ECC supports that version of symcli.

i ran ECC and SMC/SPA on the same box before, you just have to be carefull about the ports. You need to check if symcli needs to be upgraded to support 2.2.2.2

Yep will do a check for all four components ECC, SE, SMC and SPA, cause they all are interdependent.

Per Engineering the only ECC components that are allowed to run alongside SMAS are the Symmetrix and SDM agents.  All other agents and components are not allowed with SMAS.

Also, with Unisphere there are only x64 versions which require x64 Solutions Enabler.  As the Symm and SDM agents require an x86 version of SE they will not be supported alongside Unisphere for VMAX.

SMAS (SMC/SPA) is not supported on the same server as ECC repository
