VMAX connectivity
Hi Guys,
I had a doubt about the fully populated VMAX as per the below diagram.
is there any reason why the engine 3,4,5,6 is only associated with 2 storage bays & engine 1,2,7,8 is associated with 3 storage bays .

Hi Saran,
I would have a look at what drive configurations behind the engines are might give you an indication in how the array is spreading the load across the engines.

This is the maximum supported drive count at 8 engines. Yes, the outer engines will have more drives on them. If you want to ensure that all engines have the same quantity of drives attached, then you could skip the outer two bays shown above.

Is there any reason why the outer engines are incorporated with more number of drives & inner engines are with lesser numbers.

This is how the product was designed from the on-set. I can only speculate that the designers were faced with a compromise of maximum scalability vs maximum addressable space that the architecture could handle.
