What's the difference between NetApp RAID-DP vs. other RAID-6 implimentations?"
Can someone explain the Concept for RAID DP & RAID 6, How to implement each, How it works, Advantage of each!!!

Hi,
As far as protection is concerned both are serving same: double protection with help of horizontal and diagonal partity. both can withstand against 02 disk failures.
But if will take architecture in account: RAID-DP uses dedicated disk for both parity store continuing the RAID4 of Netapp, whereas the RAID-6 with distributed parity same as RAID5.
Now the performance criteria: definitely RAID6 is better in account of disk access concentration for writing parity. In case of RAID-DP, it has wait for another write cycle to write the multiple parity changes as compare to RAID6.

Hi,
Netapp RAID-DP implements RAID 4, except with an additional disk that is used for a second parity, so it has the same failure characteristics of a RAID 6. The performance penalty of RAID-DP is typically under 2% when compared to a similar RAID 4 configuration.
