Error after installing VSI 5.5 on win7 PC's

Hi,

I hope somebody can help. After upgrading VSI 5.4 to 5.5 on my workstation, the solutions enable connection does not work anymore...

I get error: Connection failed. Error: An error from a sub-library call occurred.

I have to say, that I did select to install the SE 7.6 component...

Also on 2 other PC's where I performed a clean install, I have the same error...

Any ideas?

Tnx in advance !

Peter.

On the SYMAPI server :

1. Goto Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\config\ ……. Edit the daemon_options file using notepad.

2. Search for the line #storsrvd:security_level= SECURE#

3. Remove the # from the line and change it to NONSECURE , save the file

4. Now restart the storsrvd daemon :

Stordaemon shutdown storsrvd –immediate

Stordaemon start storsrvd

5. Test the connection on VSI now.

Peter,

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "Everything VMware at EMC" which would be the most relevant for this question.

Firstly, just to confirm, in regards to Solution Enabler, you have in fact installed the latest version of the VSI Storage Viewer plug-in which is v5.4.1?  I only ask as the title suggests otherwise.

https://support.emc.com/search/?resource=ST&AlloftheseWrds=VSI%20storage%20viewer&SearchWithin=true&adv=y

I did a quick search of the KB articles and found one curious entry:

emc312057: "Cannot discover VNX with VSI Storage Viewer 5.x."

However, first verify that the VSI logs match those as noted in the article before making the change.  Otherwise, once this post is relocated let's see what others suggest.  The engineers and PM involved with the tools also monitor that specific forum.  In the meantime, you will also want to post the output of the VSI logs specific to the Storage Viewer feature which is described in the following post:

Hi Peter,

I believe you are trying to connect to a remote SYMAPI server. What’s the version of Solutions enabler on the SYMAPI server ?

Indeed, there is a remote SYMAPI server on version SE 7.5

So that’s the problem, SE version mismatch. That’s what is causing the issue. The client (VSI) is now running a higher version of SE 7.6 than the server 7.5.

So you would need to have same or higher version of SE on the SYMAPI server.

Hi Arjun,

Tnx for that, I am 1 step further now :-)

Now I'm getting: The remote client/server handshake failed.

One thing to be aware of if you're using SRM and the VSI SRA Utilities is currently it doesn't work well with SE 7.6.  If you have any trouble installing VSI SRA Utilities, you'll want to backrev your symapi client and server to 7.5.1 or lower...or wait for the next VSI SRA-U Release in September.

If you don't use VSI SRA Utils never mind :-)  VSI Storage Viewer should be fine with SE 7.6.

Arjun, thanks !!

This indeed solved it now :-)

Tnx for your help!
