max block size difference esxi and esx
We had an little issue a couple of days ago on a VNX5300.
Created a pool with a 2TB thin lun and assigned that to the esx 4 cluster.
Error on the Vclient:
Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "datastoreSystem-18958" on vCenter Server "Vcenter.x.x" failed.
When we had a look on the console with fdisk:
Disk /dev/sdv: 2199.0 GB, 2199023255552 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 267349 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
We then created a new thin lun and lowered the size a bit, that one working fine.
I had a look at another system, a esxi 4 installation connected to a CX4.
Disk /dev/disks/naa.600601604b012a00103c6a4db04be011: 2199.0 GB, 2199023255552 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 267349 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Working fine, no issue with the 2TB lun.
All systems running in VAAI enabled setup.
Anyone any idea why there is a difference between the two.

Customer who can't create 2TB luns is running version 4.1.0:348481
Just for the sake of it we used VSI to create a 2TB datastore, same problem. It's creating the 2TB lun, assigns it the cluster but VSI is also generating an error and a 2TB datastore can't be created on this 2TB lun.

ESX storage, maximum LUN size - 2TB minus 512 bytes.
