Best Practices for VMware LUN sizes on VNX2
Hi All,
How would it affect performance if I configure virtual SQL servers that have multiple volumes: OS - 100GB, SQL logs - 100GB, SQL data1 - 500GB, SQL data2 - 500GB, SQL temp db - 100GB, and SQL temp db log - 50GB in the following ways:
- Configure separate LUNs for OS - 100GB, SQL logs - 100GB, SQL data1 - 500GB, SQL data2 - 500GB, SQL temp db - 100GB, and SQL temp db log - 50GB, then present them to the ESXi cluster and install and configure the server.
- Consolidate all volumes of each SQL VM into one 1,5 - 2TB LUN: OS - 100GB, SQL logs - 100GB, SQL data1 - 500GB, SQL data2 - 500GB, SQL temp db - 100GB, and SQL temp db log - 50GB. In this case I will have one LUN per SQL VM
- Consolidate multiple SQL VMs into one 5-6TB LUN: OS - 100GB, SQL logs - 100GB, SQL data1 - 500GB, SQL data2 - 500GB, SQL temp db - 100GB, and SQL temp db log - 50GB. In this case I will have multiple SQL VMs maybe 3 or 4 running one LUN.
The array is VNX 5200 with two mixed storage pools that have three types of drives: SSD, SAS, NLSAS, FAST and FAST CACHE.
Appreciate your input.

I'd recommend reviewing the SQL VNX best practices guide
