Can VNX work with 2 windows Domain?

Hi ALL,

I have VNX 5300 that will work only as file server, The customer need to work for now with 2 windows domains (2 different AD),is it supported?

If yes what is the procedure for doing that?

The next step will be to move all the users and the Shares to one domain.

Thanks,

Jean-Paul Attia

sure, i had 3 customers and each one had their own AD. When you configure DNS servers make sure to specify DNS server (typically domain controller) for each AD. Also make sure to place each CIFS server into its own virtual datamover.

Sure –no problem

If these two domains are not trusting each other you would create two CIFS servers on the VNX.

Depending on your requirements for sharing vs. security it most likely makes sense to put each CIFS server into its own VDM

If they do trust each other then just use one CIFS server and join one domain – users from the others domain can then just as well access it.

Of course access is based on the ACLs

use VDMs, easier to manage, migrate, replicate ..etc. You can't join one CIFS server to multiple domain, just like you cant' join Windows server to multiple domains. If there is a trust between them then you need to join just one of them.

Hi dynamox,

eg, I have one user1 from AD1,  the second user2 from AD2,  two AD share one VNX file system,  user1 and user2 need to access the same directory, if VNX support it?

i have a urgent case need to confirm it,  thansk in advanced.

Hi,

The customer want to set up two separate windows AD, the first AD put the file1 to directory, the second AD can read and write the file1,

Is this your mean trust?

if there is active directory trust between domain A and domain B, then it should work seamlessly. If there is no trust then users can still connect as long as they have credentials in the other AD and specify them during drive mapping.

They share one directory .

just assign ACLs from both AD.
