Copy a filesystem using CP command in VNX file
Hi Guys,
We are planning to do filesystem data from one pool to another. The purpose of that copy is to shrink the filesystem , so that's the reason we can't use celerra replicator here.
I had an idea to do that via CP command in celerra ,total of 6 FS max size of the FS is 1000GB. Thought of Just to avoid host based migration and to from the storage side, want to know the implications of this . Any suggestions pls.
Thanks
Saran

Dont do that – the control station is not a copy client – it doesn’t have any special advantage or an external host – most likely its slower
Use an external host or maybe ndmpcopy run from an external host

It's extremely slower. We did this to restore single folders from filesystems where the CIFS Server was already deleted. We got throughput of ~2MBit/s (Celerra NS80).

Two things i like to know
1.is there any way to use the NDMP copy on windows host ? if not i would like to know the procedure for doing through linux host
2.Will NDMP copy allow the source and destination filesystem to be in different size ?

1) If you find a ndmpcopy binary for Windows yes – we only provide one for Linux
please take a minute to learn how ndmpcopy works – see the pdf manual for NDMP
2) yes

you stated that the copy over the controlstation is most likely slower - Since i tested it i know it is extremely slower compared to external Hosts.
