Disable SP Write Cache for VNX LUNs in a Oracle ASM Configuration ?

Hello,

Is it a best practice recommendation to disable SP Write Cache on VNX RAID Group LUNs in a Oracle ASM configuration.

Thanks

never heard of such a recommendation, where did you see that ?

Leave the best practices, if you do that, it will never work.

Are you trying to disable it on a particular LUN, till the time you are configuring Oracle ASM or is it permanently ?

Thanx

Rakesh

Disable Write Cache or Fast Cache? Is it a read-only application?

This was recommended by Oracle architect here claiming it as a EMC recommendation.

I was not affirmative though, never did or saw such a recommendation  Just wanted to make sure.

I know that FAST cache is recommeneded to be disabled for Oracle archive and redo logs, do not see any use in disabling SP write cache

Thanks for the responses.

Oracle11gR2 RAC

VNX7500

They did not refer to any white papers yet.

They got the SP write cache disabled but FAST cache enabled for all their database LUNs and FRA LUNs.

Thanks

Your Subject line is a bit different. Now you may be correct. They may want to automate it by Oracle ASM.
