Do we require license for VNX Replicator ?

Hi,

When we buy a VNX 5400, does the VNX File Replicator license is enabled by default ? Also is this a temporary license or a permanent license ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Taz,

It depends on the sale contract package you have asked for. Please check with your local SAM on this.

Hi, you'll get a 180 day license with the 5400. Beyond that you get Replicator in the Remote Protection Suite, or singularly.

Okay.. In our quote am seeing local protection suite license and remote protection suite license covered. Does this mean this is a permanent license.

Hi...

IF your system were licensed for "File," it would have a control station (at least 1).  And, it would have "Data Movers" which are specialized components used as Network Attached Storage to serve up Files in NFS, or CIFS.

According to the information I have in front of me...

VNX5400  from a July 2015 Data Sheet

The VNX5400 is designed for the entry-to-mid-tier space. This model supports block, file, and unified configurations, and utilizes a DPE chassis.

The SPs in this model use a 1.8 GHz, four-core Xeon E5 processor with 16 GB of RAM, supporting a maximum of 250 drives with the following host connectivity options: FC, iSCSI, and FCoE.

Best Wishes

VNX Replicator is part of the VNX Remote Protection Suite, that also entitles the use of MirrorView and RecoverPoint (Block Replication Features), unlike these others an Enabler is not needed to use the functionality, just a checkbox on Unisphere: Settings | Manage Licenses
