Does NS-G8 require a backend FC switch?
Hello,
we are planning to use the NS-G8 to front end a cx4-480 clariion. I have spare ports on the Clariion but am short of switch ports at this time. I have been reviewing the G8 setup giude, but it only mentions an FC switched backend topology, so now I am not sure if I can directly attach the G8 DMs to the cx480.
Does anyone know if this is supported or is a switch mandatory?
thanks
Rich

Hi Rich,
according to the NAS support matrix available from Powerlink (see SAN guidelines section page 52) it is supported to direct-attach a NS-G8 to a CX4-480.
Before you install you need an appoved Qualifier and CCA anyway - during that process the support status will be checked anyway
If its just temporary I would avoid it in order to avoid the work of converting it to fabric-attached.

P.S.: You wont get many answers here - this section is external forum for partner software developers integrating with Celerra - I would suggest to either use the support section of ESN or the internal forum at http://celerra.emc.com
