How do I find the WWN of AUX0 and AUX1

I want to configure some FC zones for my VNX Datamovers to see my Tape Library.

The two interfaces AUX0 and AUX1 are not showing link LEDs.  I've tried setting the speed to 8Gb and Autonegotiation and rebooting the Datamover.

I haven't been able to find out either how to show the WWN of the ports?

server_sysconfig server_2 -pci

I've tried bouncing the ports on the switch but no change.

Not sure what else to do as EMC support don't want to help. They want to "engage professional services".

cables look good ? (transmit/receive are not reversed ?) . Let's try resetting the port on the datamover itself.

.server_config server_2 -v "fcp portreset=2"

notice the "dot" in front of server_config, this will reset this port (in bold), after that try "shut" "no shut" again.

server_2 : PCI DEVICES:

On Board:

  PMC QE8 Fibre Channel Controller

    0:  fcp-0-2  IRQ: 22 addr: 5006016247202a87

    0:  fcp-0-3  IRQ: 23 addr: 5006016347202a87

yes they should, the other day i could not get it to login so had to "shut" and "no shut" the port on FC switch.

Many thanks.

Should AUX0 and AUX1 automatically log into the FC switches when connected?

I don't have link LEDs.

Ok problem sorted. Swapped the channels round on the cables.

The structured cabling must be reversed on my last four ports

Thanks for your help. I have the commands now for troubleshooting.

It does appear to be a cable problem.

I ran a cable directly from server_3 AUX1 port to the switch, bypassing the patch panel and it came up immediately.

Am I correct in thinking server_2 is at the right hand side when looking from the back of the unit?

yes, server_2 is on the right hand side. I don't know what cables you use but on some you can take the housing off and swap rx/tx

Again, many thanks for your help.

Only after re-reading the whitepapers did the penny finally drop "direct attach tape library".

So yes as you mentioned, I swapped the rx/tx channels on the cables and the ports enabled immediately.

I was able to perform a backup of one of my CIFS shares, 189GB @ 7.9GB/min. Not too shoddy.

Would you indulge me one more question, in my backup software I can see the NAS share on the VNX. I cannot see any folders underneath though. I can backup fine and it shows me the individual files and folders within the restore window.

Would this be a common issue perhaps with VNX config or do you think this is entirely down to my backup software? (CA ARCserve)

It is up to the backup software whether you can see/select subdirectories of a file system

What Rainer said, for example i use TSM to perform NDMP backup. In TSM i can specify to backup as one big "image" or as one big "image" and include TOC (table of content), that would allow me to perform file/folder level restores.

I think he meant to „browse“ a directory on backup and not on restore

browse the file system before the actual backup occurs ? I can't do that in TSM because NDMP backup type in TSM is "image".

Yes ok. Yes I meant browse the file system in order to do partial file system backups.

I don’t have an option like image or image and TOC, it’s just select at the share level and this automatically gives me the function of restore all or restore individual files/folders.

Ok so sounds like it’s dependant wholly on backup software. Thanks all, just wanted to make sure I’m not missing some VNX side config.

Carl.
