Linux, VNX and other storage, but just 1 HBA ... ?

Hi,

we are currently using 1 CX4 and 1 VNX attached via SAN to our linux (SLES11SP1) cluster

using the system multipath driver.

Has anybody tried to attach lun's from a different storage provider to the same HBA ?

Does it work or MUST we use dual port HBA ?

For 23 servers this is really expensive (exchange all hba's, san ports ...)

Bye, Peer

Yes, as per my understanding this is possible if proper zoning configured.

Hi,

well we use dedicated zoneing for each path

Box1_HBA1-VNX1_SPA # 1 zone

Box1_HBA1-VNX1_SPB # 2 zone

Box1_HBA1-CX4_1_SPA # 3 zone

Box1_HBA1-CX4_1_SPB # 4 zone

Box1_HBA1-other_SPA # 1 zone

Box1_HBA1-other_SPB # 2 zone

But did not see any device attached to Box1_HBA1 see or at least can comunicate to  all other devices ?

This was the main reason to ask ! Or does each zone leeds to a sperate comunication channel , so

SPA can not see or talk to SPB ?

I'm not an expert at SAN things, therefore I'm asking all the things ....

Bye, Peer

Your zoning and understanding is correct ..it provides logical separation.
