Max files in a single directory (CIFS)

I know of a limit on Netapp WAFL that by default will prevent a user from putting 300K files in a single directory under CIFS. This has been an issue for us with our Rightfax image repository which can store 300K + fax images in a single directory. The Rightfax application will be migrating to our new VNX 7500 running File software version 7.0.50-2.

Will 300K + files in a single directory be an issue on the VNX?

Thanks

Sean

it's probably hidden somewhere in the release notes

I dont think we put a practical limit on the number of files – just the hard limit on the number of subdirs

Keep in mind though that even with hashing on our file systems side instead of linear search very large directories do put quit a burden on client’s applications that often try to first read a complete directory
