Need to remove FC I/O Module on VNX5300
Hi,
I have a failure on FC I/O module Ultraflex on VNX5300 which cause SPB to reboot. In log mentioned replace the I/O module.
I have no I/O module now and I need to remove the failure I/O module. I have not found any procedure in USM to remove the I/O module and just there is relpacing I/O module procedure.
How can I remove the I/O module to avoid panic on SPB?

The technical explanation is really quite straightforward
Imagine you wanted to remove an integral part of motherboards that affected IO and processing, Next to impossible to do without a full reinstall of the OS
So its a similar scenario for a VNX when the IO module persists in essence it becomes part of the overall board and the only way to do clean up a removal is to do a destructive reimage

You cannot without re-imaging the system – you need to replace the module

I changed my connectivity plan, I need to remove the IO module.
How is the safe procedure for removing. I can re-image if needed but wants to be assured that there is no risk for DATA

You mean I shutdown the SP with faulty module, remove the IO module, then re-image the FLARE for the SP ? If re-imaging clear all DATA ? Also I have to re-image the other SP ?

Re-image means all data is lost
Once a port is persisted there is no procedure for removing it

I have done the re-image a few times for a crashed SP but there was no DATA loss.
DATA loss on re-image is related to removing port only ?

If you have a hardware maintenance contract EMC will replace any broken I/O modules

No system is not under maintenance.
It is really bad implementation from EMC

Maybe to clarify the point made
There are two types of reimage Non Destructive, and Destructive
Rainer is correct the only way to remove a port (I/O Module) from you configuration after its persisted is to Destructively reimage the array

Ok. thanks for your clarification.
I don’t want to use I/O module anymore and buy a new I/O module which must be purchased as UPGRADE and very expensive !!! so what should do I do ? Why EMC implements such this manner ???? I am not happy with this

Hi,
is this limitation as well valid for FC IO Modules on VNX5400 ?
Is a full reinstallation of OS mandatory?
Can we do a reinitialization ourselves ?
Thanks and BR,
Eyuep.

Same for the VNX2
There is a process, but it's a Partner/EMC process - it involves re-imaging the array.
