Shutting down hostagent:                                     [  OK  ]

[root@rac2 Unisphere]# service hostagent start

do you see hostagent in "ps -ef" after you run "service hostagent stop" ...if you do can you kill that process and try to start it again.

Are you able to load sg (SCSI Generic) module manually and then can you restart the agent?

/sbin/insmod -k -v sg

If so, then search the EMC KB articles for the specific error you received.  There are several hits providing recommendations to load it upon boot (and then start hostagent).

i tried to install sg but module could not be found.

[root@rac sbin]# insmod -k -v sg

insmod: can't read '-k': No such file or directory

[root@rac sbin]# insmod -k -v sg.o

insmod: can't read '-k': No such file or directory

[root@rac sbin]# modprobe -k -v sg

FATAL: Module sg not found.

[root@rac sbin]# modprobe -k -v sg.o

FATAL: Module sg.o not found.

[root@rac sbin]#

The output suggests that it simply doesn't exist and not a case that it isn't loading which was what I was thinking.  Host Agent requires the sg driver so I would suggest maybe following up with Red Hat?  Feel free also to open up a ticket with EMC if you haven't already to see if they have any suggestions.

I'm hitting the same problem on Oracle Linux 5.7 (compatible with RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.7).

Has any resolution been determined?
