VNX5300 - problem creating LUN using MAX User Capacity option

Hi,

When I'm trying to create new LUN on empty Storage Pool I get:

"LUN 3 could not be created: There is insufficient free space in the pool to complete the operation. Please add storage to the Pool and retry. (0x712d8709)"

FLARE version is 31, no other problems.Do you have same "feature" on 31 FLARE?

The pool size is circa 3,5TB.

I would suggest to open a service request

Might be something that is fixed in a newer release or patch

In fact, that is the problem - it appears that there is no enough space in the pool.

But here's why I'm posting it - I'm creating new Storage Pool and trying to create new LUN using MAX User Capacity option (forgot to mentione it in first post ). The Pool is empty so there should be space for MAX size of LUN Smaller LUNs are created without any problems.

I wonder if it is a feature of FLARE 31 or am I alone with this problem.

pardon the obvious question, is there enough space in the pool ?

can you create ~3.5TB LUN by manually entering the capacity ?

I cannot create so big LUN but I'm able to create ca. 3,2TB LUN.

I have opened Service Request and even got answer that this is FLARE 31 issue but I would like to confront it with other VNX users as I didn't find any thread about this. Maybe somebody has this FLARE and verify if s/he is able to create LUN using MAX option.

i have one VNX5700 running 05.31.000.5.709. Pool had 28G left and i was able to select MAX for LUN capacity and it created 23G LUN.

dynamox, thank you for your help

On 3737.285 Storage Pool I had one LUN (1TB, 1024GB). I created new LUN with MAX option and second LUN appeared (2611GB).

So (most probably) error shows up only on empty Storage Pool.

BTW, we have 05.31.000.5.720.

Yep its a bug with the calculation of max size on Rel 31

This is fixed in Rel 32, workaround is to create a lun of slightly smaller of a max size

Cheers
