Esxi patch on Dell servers.

Have esxi servers with its customised iso image installed, What is the preferred method to patch this servers going forward? 

The vmware patch released are cumulative, using "esxcli software vib update -d"  or VUM method might remove or update some of Dell's components and replaced with vmware VIBs.
