AntiVirus deletes virus infected files, but no rebooting

Hi, my niece has a B130 and was told by Staples computer repair that she had Trojan virus and adware.  I had her load Bitdefender Antivirus and run a scan.  She did and 300 files where deleted.  Then, she was told by BitDefender program to reboot her computer.  When she did, she couldn't get pass Welcome of Microsoft.  She's stuck and can't do anything.  Does this mean that the infected files also damaged her XP?  Should she reinstall Windows XP?  I'm trying to figure out what she should do next.

Thank you

Have you tried to contact BitDefender support?

I am in the process of doing so, but it takes some time.  I'm just worried that I'll have to reinstall XP and lose all my data.

Update: BitDefender said I would have to repair my system with original.  Since the B130 didn't come with a CD, I'll now have to find one via Dell

The question I have is: since a XP CD did not come with the B130, does or will Dell sell a CD for this model?  Apparently, the exact same XP has to be used to restore, repair the system

I've answered my own question.  I had her use in System Tools, System Restore at an earlier date.  It worked.  She's now able to use her computer without re-installing or repairing.

Hope this helps others who cannot access system because of virus.  BTW, she was able to access System Restore by pressing F8 when turn on for Safe mode.

It might be good to post in the Malware Removal forum for a follow-up review to be sure all remnants of the infection and any vulnerabilities have been taken care of. Instructions are in the "HOW TO POST..." announcement at the top of that forum.

Revscpa,  If you want the discs for future use you can request a free set here from Dell.  Fill out the form completely. Dell usually sends these discs promptly.
