CCleaner blacklisted by Microsoft Answers

CCleaner, one of the longest-established system cleaners has been blacklisted by Microsoft Answers. The exact reason for banning the freeware’s links is not known but it appears that the interfering of the utility with Microsoft Security policy might have prompted its removal.

There is also the issue that a version of CCLEANER before 5.3.5 aka 5.3.3 and others had malware. The attack took place by piggy-backing onto CCleaner by infiltrating the servers that distribute the software, infecting version 5.33 of the Windows utility and version 1.07 of its cloud-based sister application. Those servers belonged to Piriform, the London company that created CCleaner.

Maybe CC is blacklisted (whatever that means), or maybe not:

My take is that CCleaner is a useful app for those who know how to use it (I.E. don't use the registry cleaner). It is better than Task Manager at controlling my Startup programs. I have frozen my version at 5.45 because of questionable bundling by Piriform.

Update:  The original report of a ban has now been retracted, with HTNovo now saying:

CCleaner is not in any Microsoft Blacklist and there are no Blacklists regarding other domains in the official Microsoft forums
