Google extends Safe Browsing to Chrome downloads

The Chrome team are enhancing the implementation of their Safe Browsing API service  ---  an online database of known phishing sites and malware infected web pages that is hosted at Google --- to include downloaded files.

Note that Firefox 31 and Safari also query this database in real time to provide protection against the latest internet threats, so their users should benefit as well. ( http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/virus-spyware/f/3522/p/19592525/20658998.aspx#20658998 )

RE: Google extends Safe Browsing to Chrome downloads

Has not IE provided equivalent protection for a few years now?

NSS Labs has declared IE as providing the best browser protection against socially engineered malware and phishing attacks in several tests over the past few years.

Full disclosure: I do not allow any Google software - including its Chrome browser - on any of my computers.

RE: Google extends Safe Browsing to Chrome downloads

IE's SmartScreen Filter certainly offers "analogous" (I would speculate "better") protection.

I posted this article, not because of Chrome, but because of the fact that Firefox --- which you and I both use at times --- accesses this particular Google-based protection.

Fair enough. I do like these browser wars, which only lead to better protection all around.
