Incredibly, four years into its end-of life, Win XP has still the 3rd largest market share of desktop operating systems  at just over 6%, following Win 7 (44%) and Win 10 (30%). Poor old Vista languishes at 0.4%. I still keep my XP/sp3 online, though I rarely use it. Currently I protect it with MB3 Premium, which has yet to detect (or miss) any malware. But it is not free.

I believe Panda Free AV (Dome) and Avast Free AV still work with XP. Kaspersky Free AV does not. There may be other free AVs that still work.

I fully expect my Dell XP system (now 13 years old) to die of hardware failure before malware infection. Sic transit gloria  XPocalypsi!

Since we're talking about XP's extended usage (for whose like you and me who continue to do so after these many years), it should be pointed out that Firefox --- which I believe is the last major browser to still support XP --- will release its last XP-compatible version, ESR 52.9 , [tentatively] on June 26th... and continue supporting it through August.   The lack of a modern, secure browser will likely pin the final nail in XP's "coffin".

PaleMoon, Chome, and Internet Explorer have all stopped supporting XP, months/years ago.

P.S. I can confirm that avast 18.3 still works with XP.   (I'm not sure about 18.4... lots of XP users complaining in their forum.)

My 10 year old Dell XPS-420 with Vista still fires up every day (tapping gently on wooden table)! I still have MBAM version 2.2.1.1043 which seems to get the job done and has never found malware. I think I will up grade to the latest free version on it  and see how it works. Still leery of updating to the new version on my paid for subscription on my other computer with Windows 7...don't wanna lose the credentials, although it apparently doesn't seem to be a problem.

All XP users here. They are not giving up XP. There are many browsers developed by third parties such as Github to keep XP safe. Just inquire-they are very helpful.

The Opera browser, which is quite good, still works fine with Windows XP.   Or it did last I downloaded a copy.  If it has stopped doing so, there are probably places an old version can be picked up.  Love Malwarebytes!

ESET -Nod32 does not work on XP systems.

Just as an update, I somehow lost my Malwarebytes 3 Premium antimalware on my XP/sp3 system, and have been unable to date to re-install it. I have thrown in the towel, and disconnected this XP from the internet.
