Many Pop ups need some help/hijack log posted

I hve been having problems with pop ups, as of late.  I have McAfee and I have it set to block pop ups, but I am getting a lot more pop ups lately.  I believe my computer has been hijacked.  I am posting a log.  I am not too computer savy, so I would appreciate detailed instructions on the next step in the process after posting my log. The instructions for downloading the hijack this set up were great, by the way!

You have a lop.com infection. Did you install MessengerPlus3 by chance?

Let's make sure you can view all files.

Please uninstall the following software:
MyWebSearch

Click-->Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs

Scroll down the list to locate the program name "MyWebSearch" and click Remove. When the uninstall completes, reboot the computer.

Please run HijackThis again and check the following:

Close all windows now except for HijackThis, then click the Fix Checked button.

Reboot the computer into Safe mode. Once in safe mode and logged on as "Administrator", please continue with the instructions below:

Locate and delete the following files/folders indicated in Bold text:
C:\Program Files\ MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ drawwebownsatom\MfcdBait.exe
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Eric\APPLICATION DATA\ CHICTH~1\PEAK COOL.exe ***Note*** the folder to delete has more to it's name, but it begins "CHICTH".

Reboot back to your normal windows user mode.


Open Hijackthis, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
Next to "Generate StartupList log", place a check next to "List also minor sections" (full) and "List empty sections (complete).
Then click "Generate StartupList log"
Click "Yes" to the box that pops-up.
Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears back here along with a fresh HijackThis log. Thanks!

Hello again sir,
 
I removed the MYWebSearch from the control panel, as you instructed.  I didn't install MessengerPlus3.  I have no idea what that is.  Never heard of it.  After I removed the MYWebSearch and reran HijackThis, I noticed that some of the items seemed to have changed.  So, I wanted to repost the log and hope you can look it over again.  I was a little leary to check anything to fix, because some of the items seemed slightly different and for example I did not see R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll this time. 

 

Could you please look at the new log and tell me how to proceed from this point?  Thanks in advance for your time and patience!

OK, since you uninstalled MyWebSearch the first three entries in the log that I had instructed you to remove are now gone...that's good. Sometimes software doesn't uninstall properly and will leave stray Registry entries behind. In this instance, your copy of MyWebSearch had a decent uninstall string that removed what should have been removed. So...go back to the instructions in post number 2 and continue from there. I have struck through the items that you no longer need to check so you can substitute this copy of the items you need to remove using hjt with the one from that post:

Hello again sir,
 
I took the next steps.  I was not able to locate and delete the MYWay file, but located the other two in safe mode and deleted them.  I did the Misc tools thing and log.  I tried to post it, but it was too long.  It said it exceeded the 2000 word limit for the body of the message.  I will post the latest HJ log below and maybe you can tell me, what to do about the misc tools log.  Possibly I can post it in parts?  I'll tell you my computer seems to be doing better already.  Thanks so much.

Actually, the only part of the startup log I need will have a header similar to what you see in Bold text below:

Enumerating Task Scheduler jobs:

...and in your case, you should have a couple of those 18 character.job entries. Look for that section and just post what you find there.

Unzip and copy jt.exe to your Windows folder.

Make sure you have the jt.exe unzipped to your Windows folder.

Next, please open a blank Notepad. copy the Bold text below and paste it into your blank Notepad.
"Save As" KillJobs.bat
In the "Save as type" select: All Files

Copy KillJobs.bat to your Windows folder.
Double-click on "KillJobs.bat"
(when prompted, allow the file to run)

Your Java application is out of date and causes a slight security risk as a result.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components

1. Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser.

2. Click Start-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs.
For those just reading this thread:
Depending on your OS, you may have to click Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs.

3. Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name (to highlight it) then click the "Remove" or "Change/Remove" button.
Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list.
Repeat step 3 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
**If you are asked to reboot at any point during the uninstallations, please do so. Then go back to Add/Remove and continue with the rest of the removals...when finished uninstalling all of them, reboot the computer.

4. Navigate to and delete:
  • C:\Program Files\ Java =this folder if found
5. Then go to this page.
Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."and click the "Download" button to the right.

6. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement" the page will refresh and click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language. Save it to your desktop.
Then from your desktop double-click on the executable to install the newest version.

Perform an onlinescan here.

- Once you are at the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click "send"
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location (Your Desktop is fine).

Reboot your computer when finished, and post a new HijackThis startup list, a new HijackThis scan log along with any results from your Panda scan. Thanks!

By the way, how's the computer running now? Are you having any other issues?

I copied the jt.exe to my windows folder and also the KillJobs.bat to the same folder (windows).  I was not sure it executed.  I didn't see a prompt.  It seemed to open briefly.  It opened a black window, with white lettering.  It was so quick I was not able to read what it said. 

I could not find any programs in the control panel to remove java or programs with java.  I looked 3 or 4 times.  Could it be possible the KillJobs step took it out?  Or is it possible I did not have java?  
The closest thing I saw to Java Runtime Environment in the name was Windows Media Format 11 runtime. I did not see the word java at all. 
 
Everything seems to be running pretty good on the computer and still no popups. 
 
I didn't go any further, because I wanted to check back with you.  Mostly since I was not sure about the execution of the first step; the KillJobs step.

Sounds like it executed just fine. We both will know once you post the logs that I requested so I can see if it WAS removed.

I hope you looked in the "Add/Remove" Program section and not just inside your control panel window. Try it again:
Click Start-->Control Panel...then Double-Click on the icon labeled "Add or Remove Programs". Another window should open which lists most of your installed applications. You should find it there. The entry from your HijackThis log here O4 - HKLM\..\Run: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe Shows the application is located in the C:\Program Files so it should be listed in your Add/Remove programs section. Look for the TradeMark cup of coffee (which is what Java uses as it's icon) next to the word "Java"...followed by the version. Remove anything that does not say "SE Runtime Environment 6.

I checked again for the java.  I did go to the control panel, and then add/remove programs.  I am baffled because I just dont see java.  Since you mentioned the coffee cup icon, I have in the past seen that and recognize that as a java symbol on the net and on computers I had before this one.  I did not see that symbol in my add/remove programs.  I did however locate the java folder in the c drive.  It is titled java and 2 sub folders that are CLASSES and TRUSTLIB. Below I am listing all of the programs in my add/remove program list.  Please let me know if you think any of them may have a trace of java.

What would happen if I removed the java folder in the C drive, which was the next step you instructed that I take?  Would that be a problem, if I didn't do the add/remove programs first? (I am saying that, but of course I see nothing with java in the add/remove.  I did click on each one to show the full title, as you suggested in the earlier post.)

Let's pass over the java problem for the time being...it's not so crucial at the moment. Go back to the instructions and just perform the Panda scan. Post that log here along with a fresh HijackThis log.

After you've generated your HijackThis log, please do this:

Please open HijackThis and click Open the MiscTools section. Click Open Uninstall Manager then click the Open Add/Remove Software list. Make sure Show updates (at the top) is checked then close the Add or Remove Programs window. Return to Hijackthis and click the Save list button. Save the list to your Desktop and post that list back here in this thread. Thanks!

Good evening sir,
 
I performed the tasks of Panda.  I got a log for that, but it appears to be more than 2000 words.  I guess I may still have problems.  There were a lot od adware in the log.  For now will post the fresh Hijack log.  Also have the software list I will post next message.  Please advise if you need to see all of the Panda log.

The log looks clean. However, we need to perform a couple more scans to make sure your system is free of problems.
The program ViewPoint Media Player is Foistware. You should uninstall it via add/remove.

Click start-->control panel-->add/remove programs. Scroll down to locate the program name Viewpoint Media Player and click Remove. Reboot when the uninstall completes.

Run HijackThis again and check the following:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe

Close all windows before clicking Fix Checked. Reboot.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware v7.5
( This is Ewido 4.0 renamed. If you already have Ewido installed, please update to this version which has a special "clean driver" for removing persistent malware)
  • After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
  • Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
  • Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
  • Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, click "Next", then click "Install".
  • After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
  • The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'.
  • Then right click on AVG Anti-Spyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
  • Press "OK".
  • Click the "Extended tab" and scroll down the list to find AVG Anti-Spyware guard.
  • When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
  • In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
  • From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
  • Now click "Apply", then "OK" and close the Services window.
  • Select the "Update" button and click "Start update". Wait until you see the "Update successful message. If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG Anti-Spyware Full database installer from here.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
Click on the " Scanner" button and choose the " Settings" tab.
  • Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
  • Under "How to Scan?" check all (default).
  • Under "Possibly unwanted software" check all (default).
  • Under "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected (default).
  • Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".

Close the application and reboot the computer into Safe mode. Once in safe mode continue with the instructions below:

Open the AVG Anti-Spyware application and click the " Scan" tab.
Click " Complete System Scan" to start.

Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. If Explorer or other programs are open during the scan that means certain files will also be in use. Some malware will insert itself and hide in areas that are "protected" by Windows when the files are being used. This can hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.

Note: If AVG Anti-Spyware "crashes" or "hangs" during the scan, try scanning again by doing this:
  • Scan one sector of the system at a time by using the "Custom Scan" feature. To do this select Scanner > Custom Scan and click on Add drive/directory/file. Browse to C:\Windows > System, add this folder to the list and click on "Start Scan". When the scan is complete, repeat the Custom Scan but this time, browse to and add the System32 folder. Then keep repeating this procedure until all your folders have been scanned. Make sure you include the Documents & Settings folder.
  • If this still does not help, then turn the ADS scanner off while making a Custom Scan. To do this select Scanner > Scan Settings and untick "Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams". Then repeat the steps above for performing a Custom Scan.
When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click " Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate " No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button?

Click on " Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select " Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\

Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done. Boot back to your normal User windows mode and:

Please perform a scan with F-Secure Online Scanner
Follow the directions in the F-Secure page for proper Installation.
1. Click on the link " F-Secure Online Scanner".
2. You may receive an alert on the address bar at this point to install the ActiveX control.
3. Click on that alert and then click " Insall ActiveX component".
4. Read the license agreement and click " Accept".
5. Click " Custom Scan" and be sure the following are checked:
  • Scan whole System
  • Scan all files
  • Scan whole system for rootkits
  • Scan whole system for spyware
  • Scan inside archives
  • Use advanced heuristics
6. When the scan completes, click the " I want to decide item by item" button.7. For each item found, Select " Disinfect" and click " Next".
8. When done, click the " Show Report" button, then copy and paste the entire report into your next reply along with the AVG Anti-Spyware scan log. How's the computer running for you now?

Okay, I did all of the steps in the latest post, up until the F-Scan.  I was not able to complete the F-Secure onliner scanner step.  It was taking a loooong time.  I took a long nap and when I woke up the computer was frozen.  I had to reboot.  I wanted to post the AVG report and post back to you with the latest.  Also, I was wondering if there was another scanner, other than F-SEcure that may not be so slow?  I think after an hour and 1/2 it was only about 25% into the scan.  If not maybe I can try running it overnight?
