Microsoft emergency security updates

Microsoft has published two out-of-band security updates to patch two vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows Codecs Library on Tuesday.

If malformed images are opened inside apps that utilize the built-in Windows Codecs Library to handle multimedia content, then attackers would be allowed to run malicious code on a Windows computer and potentially take over the device.

The patches have been deployed to customer systems via an update to the Windows Codecs Library, delivered through the Windows Store app -- not the Windows Update mechanism. "Customers do not need to take any action to receive the update," Microsoft said.

Doesn't say how to tell if the patches have been installed. I've got new updates listed in the Windows Reliability Monitor in last two days for:

  1. Microsoft.Windows.Photos   (6-29-20)
  2. Microsoft.HEVCVideoExtension (7-1-20)
  3. MICROSOFT.WINDOWSCALCULATOR (7-1-20)
  4. Microsoft.HEIFImageExtension (7-1-20)

Anyone know which/any of these are the emergency patches for the issues described at ZDnet?
