Please help! So much spyware and pop-ups! Tesllar A, and SillyDI DBI trojans!? ---logfile enclosed:

I have Norton 360, SUPERantispyware,Ad-Aware, and Anti-spy on the Yahoo toolbar. The toolbar anti-spy keeps finding Tesllar A and SillyDI DIB trojans that won't let me remove them, along with TONS and tons of tracking cookies. It will delete all of the tracking cookies, but if you run the scan 5 minutes later they're all back, plus more! The other programs don't find the trojan things. I can't hardly use internet explorer because hundreds of windows of pop-ups keep opening and you can't close them most of the time. And it's running SO slow!  I'm not computer literate, so please explain to me in laymans terms :) How do I get rid of this? It keeps telling me that it can't quarantine it and that it needs administrator rights, even though I AM the administrator on my computer. Thanks so much for your time and help!
Someone told me how to post the following:

Welcome. Thank you for using Dell Community Forums.
I am reviewing your log.
In the meantime, you can help me by doing the following:

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.
Definition of cracked software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.

* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence, and do not run any fixes or scanners on your own because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.

* It may take several days to completely clean the infection. If your replies with long logs do not fit in one post while we are handling your issue, please reply to yourself until all text is submitted. It may take several posts.

You have entries from Defender Pro Internet Security on there. Are you using that?

Hi, thank you so much for helping me, I really appreciate it! To answer your questions...
1. No I haven't posted this issue on any other forum
2. There's no illegal software
3. No P2P file sharing
4. I am fixing my father's computer for him, yes I have authority
5. No, I haven't done anything except copy and paste the log in here
6. The Defender Pro was on here, but my father said it didn't work and he said he deleted it. So, if it's still on there, he doesn't want it.

I have a question... right now I'm writing this to you on my mother's computer, which has no problems. Is that okay that I'm not on the broken one when replying? And also, when you say to copy or print all instructions when you begin working, where do I copy it from? A message you send me?

It is easiest if you reply using the infected computer, or you will have to download tools to a USB stick or CD and transfer them to the infected computer. You would have to transfer the logs back to whatever computer you are using so that I can review the logs. That sounds like a lot of trouble, so it's really easier to just use the infected computer for coming here (no other surfing until clean, though). We may also ask that you run an online scan at one point, so you would need to be on the infected computer for that.

To print instructions, the easiest way would be to highlight the text on this page and have your printer print the "Selection".

Our procedures need to be followed EXACTLY. We will be using some tools that can damage your computer if used improperly. Following the steps in order is very important!

This is what we need to do first:
Please reboot into Safemode. (The screen will look strange, and Windows will take longer to load, but just let it load with minimal drivers.)
To do this:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

The infected computer is running MyWebSearch (or MyBar). This is not technically malware, but it may bring malware with it.
There are safer alternatives available such as the Google toolbar. I recommend that you remove it.
To do this go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove:
My Search Bar, My WebSearch Email Plugin, and My Web Search Bar Search Scope Monitor (whichever of these are listed)

Delete this folder C:\PROGRA~1\ MYWEBSEARCH

Reboot normally.

Now we have to look for the infection. After I review the logs produced, we can clean some more.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
Alternate link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php
Double-click Smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press " Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply below.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool";
it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi, I did as you said, and re-booted in safe mode. I went to add/Remove programs and clicked on the My Web Search thing, then I hit the Change/Remove button and it gave me the following error:

RUNDLL
Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsbar.dll
The specified module could not be found.

So, I didn't go into C and delete the folder either because I didn't know if I was still suppossed to.
Now what?

Don't worry about that for now. We'll deal with it later.
Please continue with SmitfraudFix Option #1 so I can review that log. Thanks. :)

I restarted it in safe mode and neither HiJack This, or Smitfraud were anywhere to be found. So, I restarted it normally to see if I had done something to them by accident, but they were right there on the desktop. So, I rebooted into safe mode again and they were gone.
Don't know what to do....

Good job!
Please print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe again.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press " Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report along with all others into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : Running option #2 on a non-infected computer will remove your Desktop background. You can reapply your desktop background again afterwards
.

  • On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
  • Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
  • Click OK.

Okay, I ran it in normal mode. It didn't ask me to replace any files or restart the computer. I haven't restarted yet, I'm going to do that now, I just wanted to get this to you first. So, I'll delete the internet files and then restart it.

Run SmitfraudFix in Normal mode and we'll see what it comes up with.

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked".
Close HijackThis.

Reboot into Safemode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Delete these specified folders:
C:\Program Files\ Spruce
C:\Program Files\ Defender Pro\

See if you can go to Add/Remove Programs and remove those MyWebSearch entries now.

After that reboot normally. Let me know how things are running.

Hey, okay, I had some problems....
First when I was checkmarking things in HiJack, there was no:

08        Extra  context  menu  item:    &Search

All of the others you told me to checkmark were there, so I checked them and hit fix.

After I was in safe mode, I deleted C:Spruce, but when I tried to delete C:Defender Pro it said:

Error deleting File of Folder
Cannot delete Shellex.dll:Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

So, I couldn't get rid of it.

Then I went to Add/Remove Programs to try to delete MyWebSearch.
It wouldn't let me, giving the same error it gave before,
Specified Module could not be found...

I resarted back to normal mode, and went to Add/Remove again, just to see if it would let me do it. Defender Pro was in there, I don't know why, so I un-installed it, again.  I tried MyWebSearch again but it wouldn't let me.

I put it back in safe mode. Went to C: Defender Pro... it said the same error about the Shellex.dll
Also tried MyWebSearch again... no luck

I'm still getting tons of pop-ups.... what to do now?

By the way, thanks a million for all of your time and help!
You get paid for this, right?

No, we don't get paid for this. We're volunteers. :)

Please download Combofix from one of these locations:
Here or Alternate link
** Take note that the link is case sensitive.
Save ComboFix to the desktop.
**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to, and run from your desktop.
In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it as this is a new version.

* Close any open browsers.
* Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
You will temporarily lose your Desktop while the scan is running. Once scanning is done your Desktop will return to normal.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a fresh HijackThis log.

Notes:
* Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
* ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
* Don't forget to enable your anti-virus before coming back online to post your logs.

We're making progress! 2 Thumbs Up

I have to go through those logs and write some script. I probably will not be able to reply until tomorrow. It would be good if you could just disconnect the infected machine from the internet until then. We'll continue tomorrow.
