Surfbunnie,

Let's start off by doing this...

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click " Free Online Scan".
2. Click " Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) " Auto Clean".
3. Click " Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Download, then unzip to " C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.0. Now, let's do the following:

1. Click " Scan"
2. Click " Save log"

Notepad will pop-up with a copy of your system long, then:

1. " Edit | Select all"
2. " Edit | Copy"

Next, let's " Reply" back to this post, then:

1. Right-click on the message body.
2. Select " Paste"

Then just " Post" the message, and we'll analyze your log shortly, then post back any recommendation(s).

Mike.

surfbunnie,

If your using a dialup account, download times can be excruciating! But once installed, they'll help you keep your system clean on a regular basis ... :)

-

Most of those files are in your java cache; this is how we need to clear those out...

To clear the cached java files, which are also called ' jar' files:

1.  Click " Start"
2.  Click " Control Panel"
3.  Click " Other Control Panel Options".
4.  Cick " Java Plug-in".
( when the Java plug-in starts up)
5.  Click the " Cache" tab.
6.  Click " Clear"
7.  Click " Yes".
8.  Exit the " Java(TM) Plug-in Control Panel".

Be sure to post back a log for me to review.

surfbunnie,

Let's get started...

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    Desktop Search
    SideFind
    TSCash

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then:

1.  Click "Check For Update"

(If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.)

2.  Click "Click here to Download the upate".
3.  When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save".

4.  Click "Fix ->"

Run HiJackThis then:

1.  Click "Config..."
2.  Click "Misc Tools"
3.  Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ivwybr.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Surfbunnie,

Good work! On those files and folders we need to delete - just use windows explorer to locate and delete them.

Then...

Click " Start", then " Search", then look in all files and folders for *desktop* and post back the results.

Let's see what other 'problems' might be hiding on your system...

Download mwav.exe from MicroWorld, then:

1.  Double-click the mwav.exe icon to run it ( it'll self extract).
2.  Click " Scan".
3.  When it completes, post back the results from the 'Virus log information' pane.

Surfbunnie,

Yeah I know, those logs are totally HUGE!!! I just wrote a utility to help parse those out with a few clicks and help delete the 'bad' files it found. I've just upped to a server for distribution, but it's needs to pass through the beta-test phase first, before anyone can download and use it. That'll give me a chance to work out the bugs.

Surfbunnie,

You don't want to search for those, since i've already provided you with the complete path of what to delete.

On the other hand, if you search for 'isrvs' there's not telling what your going to come up with. If it's under the folders... section, you'll only to delete the specified folder, not each occurance of *isrvs*. That might lead to problems.

Under the folder... section, just delete the folder in red, it'll be located in the path in black. The same goes for the files. The ones you'll need to search for are in the search for these... section, and fortunately, you didn't have any of those.

Sorry if that seems confusing.

Mike.
