Updates 11/25/15 - Flash; CCleaner 5.0

Adobe Flash Player 15 has been updated to 15.0.0.239

Notes as of this writing:

1) there is no documentation available [yet].  SEE BELOW

2) The download links we usually cite here for direct downloads (with no bundled junk) are still offering the previous build, x.223.   I don't know if there's just a delay in Adobe updating these, or if it represents a change in their philosophy. SEE BELOW

3) If you insist on downloading these updates immediately, they can be obtained from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ ; however, be advised that going through this site, you will be offered unnecessary bundled software (Google CHROME, Google Toolbar for IE, McAfee Security Scan Plus utility):  be sure to UNcheck these "Optional" Offers [unless you actually want them].

The current is always available at the No Junk No toolbar installer page.

Speed,

1) Neither of those files/versions are for the newly-released Flash:   15.0.0.239

2) I *DO* have links that point to a "no junk / no toolbar" installer (which in fact, is not packaged as an achive/zip file, and so is easier to work with for most people)... moreover, it's much smaller than the downloads you cited --- between 16.5 to17 MB.   Offering no junk wasn't the issue... but as noted in my first post, the links I'm aware of are still offering 15.0.0.223.

Either be careful to UNcheck any pre-checked offers for bundled programs/toolbars (unless you really want them)... or else, wait a few days until the SLIM build is released.

Back to FLASH again:     Users of IE10/11 on Win8/8.1 will receive a proprietary Flash update directly from Microsoft.   These have been documented as https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3018943

Just downloaded the new version of ccleaner and told Win 7 to save the file.

The file saved was named ccsetup500_exe which obviously isn't the name of an executable. I didn't notice the error until I double-clicked it and Windows asked what app I wanted to open that file. I changed it to .exe and it installed.

As a test, I had their site download it again and it's named _exe again so it's an error on their end.

DUH!

Ron,

that's interesting:   I downloaded the file twice --- once to a primary Win7 system, and once to an XP-Mode Virtual Machine (on the Win7 system) --- and had no such problem.

Hope you can see this (or click jpg to open in full window).

I should mention that I was downloading the free version of ccleaner, not the paid version. So maybe that's the difference..??

Ron,

I'm not denying your experience... just saying it hasn't happened to me... now on another system as well.

Interesting you're getting your download through filehippo.com.... I wonder if that has something to do with it?

Also wondering, if you're using some download manager???

I got to the Piriform site by clicking the "Check for Updates" link on start page in the prior version of ccleaner on this system. Don't use any download manager. I just clicked the Download button on the Piriform page and it took me to FileHippo.

The Download button on the Piriform page for the free version is hard coded to go to FileHippo, but the Download buttons for the 2 paid versions stay on the Piriform site.

Wonder if they outsourced the free version download to FileHippo and that's who misnamed the file.

Why is it always me...?  [:'(]

Ron,

I now see what you mean by the transfer to FileHippo.

Next time, try the download link on "builds" page we give in this thread:   http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Just checked it again, starting from my original link to the Piriform site and now FileHippo is correctly offering ccsetup500.exe. So it appears they fixed the error of their ways. :emotion-4:

But it still doesn't explain why the Piriform site is linking directly to FileHippo for the free version, when in the past that page always offered me the free version from their own site, especially since I don't like FileHippo. Oh well. I'll just use your link from now on.

Ever since your post on CCleaner on September 25, I have refrained from updating. Your objections at that time were that CCleaner injected itself  into one's system tray, and was running in real time, and was resistant to removal.

Has anything changed?  I'm still using  v4.17.4808, which continues to work quite nicely.
