I also wanted to add that I did go in and turn off the Live Windows One Care however the scan said it was still enabled.

Re: Virus keeps shutting off my firewall and won't let my security run. was trojandownloader

iWinGamesHookIE.dll is a BHO related to Iwin Games installation. See here and here which recommends removal. CF already deleted the file but its program folder and other related files remain. To remove it completely reboot your computer in "safe mode" using the F8 method.

Go to Start > Control Panel or Start > Settings > Control Panel (if in Classic View) and double-click on Add/Remove Programs. From within Add/Remove Programs highlight "iWin Games" (if listed) and select Remove. Vista users should use the Programs and Features section of Control Panel.

If the program is not listed in Add/Remove, look for an uninstall or remove option from within its program group. Click on the Start > All Programs (or Program Files), and use the program's uninstaller. Another option is to navigate to the folder itself using Window's Explorer and double-click on the program's uninstaller from that location.

Run HijackThis, and press "Scan." When the scan is complete place a check mark next to the following entries (if they are still present): (Please be careful and do not check any other boxes)

O2 - BHO: IEHlprObj Class - {8CA5ED52-F3FB-4414-A105-2E3491156990} - C:\Program Files\iWin Games\iWinGamesHookIE.dll

It probably shows "file missing" by now. After checking it, CLOSE ALL open windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked" to remove the entries you checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, close HijackThis and reboot your computer normally.

Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.

  • TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
  • Click the
  • Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

  • OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "
  • Next".
  • A notification will appear that "
  • Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.

  • Click the
  • Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on

-- If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
-- If you choose to update via the Java applet in Control Panel, uncheck the option to install the Toolbar unless you want it.
-- The uninstaller incorporated in this release removes previous Updates 10 and above, but does not remove older versions, so they still need to be removed manually.

Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications but it's not necessary.
To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and
  • uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter.
  • Click Ok and reboot your computer.

Caution: Your log show that you are using file-sharing programs.

Using any peer-to-peer (P2P) or file sharing program (i.e. Limewire, eMule, uTorrent) is a security risk which can make your system susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, and exposure of personal information.

The reason for this is that file sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. This practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft, system infection and remote access exploit by attackers who can take control of your computer without your knowledge. Even if you change the risky default settings to a safer configuration, downloading files from an anonymous source increases your exposure to infection because the files you are downloading may actually contain a disguised threat. Many malicious worms and Trojans, such as the Storm Worm, target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known vulnerabilities. In some instances the infection may cause so much damage to your system that recovery is not possible and a Repair Install will NOT help!. In those cases, the only option is to wipe your drive, reformat and reinstall the OS.

Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose you to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The best way to eliminate these risks is to avoid using P2P applications.Since the nature of P2P programs is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state, I recommend that you remove all such programs to reduce the risk of infection and keep your system clean.

Re: Virus keeps shutting off my firewall and won't let my security run. was trojandownloader

Did you open Windows Explorer and check all folders in c:\Program Files and c:\programdata to ensure all iWin Games folders were removed? If not, please do so. Just right-click on the folder and choose delete if its still present. LimeWire should have been in a folder in Program Files too and you can delete that as well if its still there. Removing applications via Add/Remove do not always remove the parent folder so its always best to double check and delete the leftovers if they are still there.

The SAS scan found a lot of cookies. Cookies are text string messages given to a Web browser by a Web server. Whenever you visit a web page or navigate different pages with your browser, the web site generates a unique ID number which your browser stores in a text (cookie) file that is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from that server. Cookies allow third-party providers such as ad serving networks, spyware or adware providers to track personal information. The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and prepare customized Web pages for them.

  • Persistent cookies have expiration dates set by the Web server when it passes the cookie and are stored on a user's hard drive until they expire or are deleted. These types of cookies are used to store information between visits to a site and collect identifying information about the user such as surfing behavior or preferences for a specific web site.
  • Session (transient) cookies are not saved to the hard drive, do not collect any information and have no set expiration date. They are used to temporarily hold information in the form of a session identification stored in memory as you browse web pages. These types of cookies are cached only while a user is visiting the Web server issuing the session cookie and are deleted from the cache when the user closes the session.
The type of persistent cookie that is a cause for some concern are "tracking cookies" because they can be considered a privacy risk. These types of cookies are used to track your Web browsing habits (your movement from site to site). Ad companies use them to record your activity on all sites where they have placed ads. They can keep count of how many times you visited a web page, store your username and password so you don't have to log in and retain your custom settings. When you visit one of these sites, a cookie is placed on your computer. Each time you visit another site that hosts one of their ads, that same cookie is read, and soon they have assembled a list of which of their sites you have visited and which of their ads that you have clicked on. They are used all over the Internet and advertisement companies often plant them whenever your browser loads one of their banners. Cookies are NOT a "threat". Cookies cannot be used to run code or to deliver viruses to your computer. As text files they cannot be executed to cause any damage. Cookies do not cause any pop ups or install malware.

As long as you surf the Internet, you are going to get cookies and some of your security programs will flag them for removal. However, you can minimize this by referring to:

How is your computer running now? Are there any more reports/alerts, signs of infection or issues with your browser?

Re: Virus keeps shutting off my firewall and won't let my security run. was trojandownloader

Ok then we are just about done so lets do some final cleanup.

Please download OTC by OldTimer and save to your Desktop.

  • Connect to the Internet and double-click on
  • OTC.exe to start the program.
  • Click on the green
  • CleanUp! button.
  • If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.
  • When it has finished, OTC will ask you to reboot so it can remove itself.
-- Note: Doing this will remove any specialized tools (including this one) downloaded and used. All other programs should be kept on your machine and used on a regular basis.

Then you should Create a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one. Some of the malware you picked up could have been backed up, renamed and saved in System Restore. Since this is a protected directory your tools cannot access to delete these files, they sometimes can reinfect your system if you accidentally use an old restore point. Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.

The easiest and safest way to do this is:
  • Go to
  • Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
  • Choose the radio button marked "
  • Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name, then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.

  • Then use
  • Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recently created Restore Point.
  • Go to
  • Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
  • Click "
  • Ok". Disk Cleanup will scan your files for several minutes, then open.
  • Click the "
  • More Options" tab, then click the "Clean up" button under System Restore.
  • Click Ok. You will be prompted with "
  • Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?"
  • Click
  • Yes, then click Ok.
  • Click
  • Yes again when prompted with "Are you sure you want to perform these actions?"
  • Disk Cleanup will remove the files and close automatically.

Tips to protect yourself against malware and reduce the potential for re-infection:Keep Windows and Internet Explorer current with all critical updates from Microsoft which will patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. If you're not sure how to do this, see Microsoft Update helps keep your computer current.

Avoid gaming sites, porn sites, pirated software, cracking tools, keygens, and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs (i.e. Limewire, eMule, uTorrent). They are a security risk which can make your computer susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Malicious worms, backdoor Trojans IRCBots, and rootkits spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming, porn and underground sites. Users visiting such pages may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans, and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid these types of web sites and not use any P2P applications.Keeping Autorun enabled on USB (pen, thumb, jump) and other removable drives has become a significant security risk due to the increasing number of malware variants that can infect them and transfer the infection to your computer. To learn more about this risk, please read:Many security experts recommend you disable Autorun asap as a method of prevention. Microsoft recommends doing the same.

...Disabling Autorun functionality can help protect customers from attack vectors that involve the execution of arbitrary code by Autorun when inserting a CD-ROM device, USB device, network shares, or other media containing a file system with an Autorun.inf file...
Microsoft Security Advisory (967940): Update for Windows Autorun

• Finally, if you need to replace your anti-virus, firewall or need a reliable anti-malware scanner please refer to:

I recommend taking advantage of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Protection Module which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware. This technology monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. The database that defines the heuristics is updated as often as there is something to add to it. Enabling the Protection Module feature requires reqistration and purchase of a license key that includes free lifetime upgrades and support. After activation, Malwarebytes can be set to update itself and schedule scans automatically on a daily basis. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs.
