Re: Windows 10 KB4524147 Update May Cause Boot, Start Menu, and Printing Issues

Going forward on this Win 7 machine, the only updates I will install are the regular Security "Intelligence" Updates that are offered just about daily. Since the "Quality Rollups", those with the large files, have failed to download the last couple of months, I will just continue to ignore and hide them. The "NET Framework" updates don't seem to cause any problems and perhaps I should continue to install them after a waiting period of a few weeks.  About ready to get a new computer and go with 10. Is it reasonable to think these problems with MS are going to get any better, or has a downward spiral started?

We don't know, definitively, what's going on with Microsoft and all the many problems that their updates (often) are causing.   While I'll be the first to defend them, arguing there's no way they can possibly anticipate EVERY possible hardware/software configuration, it nevertheless seems there have been too-many basic/common configurations that have been impacted, indicating insufficient in-house testing of what they're releasing.   I'm hoping that will change... but I'm not willing to bet on it 😞

They need to learn:   If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

As for Win7, many of the Quality updates were/are really important.   Since most of them are cumulative, if you don't want to bother with "them all", I'd nevertheless suggest you go for the last one, this coming January, if you plan to continue using your Win7 system after that.

What MS really should learn is:  If it ain't broke, don't break it!

If you will use the Windows 10 Feedback Hub you ‎will be able to immediately report any issues directly to the appropriate team so that they can be addressed in a timely manner.
The sooner a number of users report, the sooner they can be fixed for everyone. Make sure you include as many details as possible. Microsoft may need to contact you for logs, so do not wipe them out in haste.
