qbupdate.exe - UNABLE TO LOCATE COMPONENT

Helping my friend rid himself of the "sysprotect" popups. He has a Dell Dim 300 running win XP.

I had him download and run Sysprotect Remover.exe from Artibune.org. It seemed to get rid of the popups but.... now when he boots up he gets an error that says: qbupdate.exe - UNABLE TO LOCATE COMPONENT. Under the heading is the following message,  "this application has failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem".

So one step forward one back. :-)

I think I can stop the error reading by disabling the Quick Books update feature by turning it off in start up. But is there a more elegant fix? IE one that fixes the missing DLL? Or is that what was causing the sysprotect popups?

Anyway thanks for any help.

If you have the Quickbooks program disc, you should just be able to load and repair. If no disc

try this link for missing DLL's

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mfc71

Bamajim,

Hey thanks for the link. I wonder if that DLL wasn't the cause of the problem and if not why did it disappear after running the "sysprotect Remover" program?

Anyway I will check the link out.
