xps laptop damaged by virus

I got a virus on my xps laptop 1210 that has damaged xp. Even though I managed to remove the virus itself, it has caused damage to windows xp pro so that for example it is impossible to install any antivirus software. Also the computer locks up very often.

I see no other solution but to format the driver and reinstall everything.

Should I first reinstall windows and then download drivers etc? I mean the laptops comes with special devices like battery indicator and so on, so I guess its not as easy as to reinstall on a stationary computer?

Any advice on how to do this right would be appreciated..

Use the quick restore - press CTRL-F11 once at the Dell screen.  That will restore the system to its as-shipped configuration.  Then do all Windows critical updates (and antivirus updates) immediately thereafter.
