Vostro 200, "AHCI Bios not installed"

My Dell Vostro 200 has the error AHCI Bios not installed

I cannot access the bios, only thing I can access is the F12 Boot menu.

The PC will also not boot from anything, eg my HDD or the disk drive.

I have tried resetting the CMOS on the motherboard with the jumper connector, however it still is not working.

All I want to do is access the Bios

I was going to install Windows 10 and use it as a office PC, however if I cannot do that I will end up scrapping it as eWaste.

Any answers are greatly appreciated.

If resetting with the jumper did not work try pulling the CMOS (coin cell) battery and leave it out for at least 15 minutes. Does the AHCI error stay on the screen or is it there for only  a moment or two? Also since you can press F12 for the boot menu, run the full system diagnostics in case you are having hard drive problems. The following forum posts might help as well.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Removing the CMOS battery fixed the issue.

The CMOS battery was all rusted out on one side and was reading less than 2V on my multimeter.

Changed it over with a new CMOS and now the machine is working perfectly and I have managed to install Windows 10 without any issues.

Thanks :)
