Vostro 230 upgrade 8GB ram, Quad Core CPU
Just a heads up from my latest potato. D07M001 A Quad Core CPU and 8GB low density ram will work in Vostro 230. Base model, no letters, latest bios installed. 4x2GB 16 chip ram sticks.
771 socket Xeon requires an adapter sticker and the 10 to 15 minutes with a sharp knife cutting the socket tabs. pulled the e6600 So far it is running fine with x5450. cpu mark rates the old cpu at 1877, new one 4148.

Intel Xeon X5450 SLASB Quad Core CPU 4x 3GHz , 12MB Cache would require hacking the keyways from the socket and a Flex Circuit to swap pins on the cpu. What bios version do you have?

Correction. That is FOUR 2gb sticks... now running with a xeon and GTX660ti video card.
