Vostro 3478 i3 8th gen RAM and SSD upgrade
Hi,
I have purchased dell vostro 3478 with i3 8th Gen 4 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD.
It has 4 gb RAM specification as DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4GB, 2400, 1RX16, 8G, DDR4, S.
I want to add more 4 gb to it.
Please suggest a 4 GB RAM which is compatible to my PC as 1Rx16 is difficult to get, and costly also.
Can I use ssd in place of optical drive with a caddy and make my pc as ssd+hdd.
Thanks,
SHAHKAR

SHAHKAR,
Below are the memory specs for your computer. You cannot switch out the optical drive to install an ssd drive. You would need to replace the one you have installed.

Yes, that is correct. The SSD officially tested with this model is a 256GB SSD.
You will need to use a 2.5” SATA SSD as the system does not support M2 or mSATA. However, customers have successfully used a 1TB drive & confirmed working fine.

Hello,
Why dont you do a web search and look it up yourself it is not to difficult. Dont waste your time with dell support they are useless.

And what about the M2 slot inside? What type of SSD (Sata or NVME and B or M-key) is compatible and up to what size?

M.2 SATA only -- this model has no NVMe support.
Any capacity that will physically fit, will work. Most SATA M.2 SSDs are 1T or under.
