Hi Aiyappa,

Yes, you can use ESXi as SDS-only, no problem with that. The way you configure them is through the Web Plugin - you deploy the SVMs over the hypervisors you want to use as your SDS and simply don't install SDCs on them.

All the installation steps are described in details in ScaleIO Deployment Guide which you can find here:

https://support.emc.com/products/33925_ScaleIO/Documentation/

There's no real difference between bare metal and ESXi in terms of performance - some overhead exists for virtualized environments, but it's benig.

Hope that helps!

Best,

Pawel

Hello Pawel,

Thanks a ton for the Quick reply

Just to get a little more Insight. I know we can have a two-tier set-up with Bare Metal Host acting as SDS and ESXi being an SDC. Can ESXI host be configured as SDS in a two-tier architecture?

its possible do we have to any literature / Write-ups on the same?

How would the SDS be configured & Managed, would it be through the Plugin or MDM?

I am guessing that there would be performance impact based on how the Io's are handled by Bare Metal Host vs ESXI .
