vSOM is separate packaging of vSphere and not included in the bundled licensing version of Appliance.to use vSOM customers would have to supply their own licenses.

Thanks Colin,

I was told by more than one source that by not selecting the VLP option, the appliances are shipped with vSphere Enterprise Plus. Please confirm otherwise and or what would be the config to achieve this. Thanks

The non-VLP VxRail orders ship with a bundled vSpehe Standard license.

VSAN and vCenter license are included in all order types. Customers can choose to apply existing vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses (the VLP option) or buy an appliance with a bundled vSphere Standard license.

Re: VMware FT - Not supported with VxRail as it requires a separate, dedicated 10GbE link for FT. Our solution for active-active protection is stretch clustering available in Q2.

VSOM is not provided or licensed with VxRail.

Thanks CUE,

That answers the question respective to VSOM support.  Regarding the vSphere Edition currently supplied with the appliance when the VLP option is NOT selected is what I would like to confirm.

Not to disregard what Colin has mentioned that it is vSphere Standard License but  I would like to confirm if this is so.  Reason being is that

1) The FAQ does not state what Edition of vSphere is included but only mentions that the VxRail Appliance ships with vSphere 6.0,VSAN 6.1,vRealize Log Insight and vCenter Server.

2) Also that when the VLP option is selected, in order to be eligible, the customer must have vSphere Enterprise Plus Edition licenses

With this in mind, what is the version of vSphere shipped with the appliance?  and if it is indeed vSphere Standard Edition, is it a customized Standard Edition that includes some Enterprise functionality, e.g. DRS

Thanks

Hi,

At the second half of the year, this VxRail Appliance VLP (vSphere Loyalty Program) option should be the only option available?

I have worked in many customers , and this is a very relevant information for projects that will happen..

Hello Experts,

A customer has a quarter rack greenplum. The green plum brings 2 switches and 1 additional switch for management.

Customer wants to buy VXrail60 to deploy virtual application servers and have a doubt whether he can connect VXrail Appliance to the greenplum nodes. Is this possible?

Or do they need to add additional switches to connect VXrail and then uplink these switches to the greenplum switches.

Thanks

w1ll1ng and others:

VxRail models ordered with the “bundled” vSphere license (also know as the non-VLP option) come with a vSphere Standard license. This is a change from what was in the Sales Accreditation and also from VSPEX BLUE. This change allowed us to reduce the entry price for VxRail significantly for customer who do not need vSphere Enterprise+ making us more price competitive.   Customers who want Enterprise functionality, in particular the ability to balance performance across the cluster (provided by VMware vSphere Distributed Resource Scheduler or DRS) need to choose the option to bring their own vSphere Enterprise+ licenses (also known as the VLP option). We have found that customers who want Enterprise+ functionality with vxRail commonly have existing ELA’s for vSphere and this option provides them the most cost effective way to do so. These customers could also leverage a vSphere Enterprise+ license purchased through their preferred channel partner or directly from VMware.

vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS) functionality is enabled on all VxRail models in all cases as part of VMware Virtual SAN, regardless of the vSphere license type.
