Richard has been part of the VxRail Product Management team for almost two years, and is currently the lead Product Manager for VxRail 4.0. He has been with Dell EMC for three years, where previously, he worked as a Solutions Manager for the VSPEX RA program. Richard has worked in high tech for almost 30 years, holding a wide range of positions in Europe, Asia, and North America. He currently lives near Seattle, where the weather reminds him of The Netherlands where he grew up.

Just I want to know is possible to configure vxrail system with 4 appliance with 12 node ? 

IHAC who have a leg room in each appliance to add a node later. So they want to buy 4 appliance having 3 node each.

Is it possible to configure and order ?

Yes, the G Series can be partially populated so you would have 3 nodes in each of 4 chassis because you must have at least 3 4 nodes in the first chassis.

Edit: "Per Gary's comment, the first 4 nodes must be the same and in the same chassis, however subsequent chassis can be partially populated"

However, the first chassis MUST be fully populated prior to scaling out into additional chassis.

This means that with 12 nodes in 4 chassis, you would need 4 nodes in Chassis 1, then you can split the remaining 8 nodes between the remaining 3 chassis.

if the appliances are to be joined and managed as one big cluster spanning the four chassis then as mentioned the first chassis fully populated and the additional chassis at 3 nodes. If they are to be deployed and managed independent of each other, then you would be able to do this with 3 nodes in each chassis

I think Next Gen is greatest HCI products.

I want to ask you some my question.

1. Can I mix G/E Series to existing VxRail Gen.2 environment?

2. Can I configure 2 nodes cluster with external witness VM?

3. Can I remove the old node from the cluster with VxRail Manager?

    I want to replace my old environment by forklift migration.

4.Can I simple update VxRail Softwares by VxRail Manager?

1. Can I mix G/E Series to existing VxRail Gen.2 environment?

     A: Yes as long as the existing environment has been upgraded to 4.0 to support the new HW platforms AND you maintain the drive types.           Meaning you cannot mix All -Flash with hybrid.

2. Can I configure 2 nodes cluster with external witness VM?

     A: No! Minimum entry point with 4.0 is 3 nodes

3. Can I remove the old node from the cluster with VxRail Manager?

    I want to replace my old environment by forklift migration.

     A: Not at this time. VxRail Development is working out a process by which we can safely remove/shrink a cluster

4.Can I simple update VxRail Softwares by VxRail Manager?

     A: Once 4.0 releases, for all systems that are running 3.5 AND have an enterprise license, you can easily upgrade to 4.0 from the      upgrade button in VxRail Manager. If the cluster is running with a Standard lic, you will need to engage DELL EMC Remote Support to      schedule the upgrade as it is now a manual upgrade.

If by native RecoverPoint, you mean the old storage array based appliance, no.  They functions at the LUN level on an external storage system.

VxRail has RecoverPoint in it already though, the virtual version.  It's designed for VM level protection. So yes, it does have native RecoverPoint integration in that respect.


There is an updated Sizing tool for 4.0.  It is available to employees and partners on the Enablement Center

Does VxRail 3.5 or 4.0 support PSC Enhanced Linked mode between 2 VxRail appliances sitting in different DCs (clusters)?

If configured to join existing external vCenter during first run VxRail 3.5 and 4.0 can use Enhanced Linked Mode with another external vCenter instance.

Hi Experts,

If I need to mix different workload node, for example, G series and V series.

1. Can I separate the vSphere(VSAN) cluster under same vCenter + PSC management ?

2. Can I separate the vCenter (using vCenter Linked mode) under same PSC management ?

I need separate cluster because using different workload system using different vSphere licensing model.

Sorry, I have found the spec sheet that shows min nodes is 3 per cluster.

Hello,

When mixing different VxRail Series in a cluster, should I configure 3 nodes of the same node type in each VxRail Series appliance in a cluster?

Or can I add one or two nodes to a different Series cluster? For example, Can 4 G-Series nodes and 1 E-Series node be configured in a cluster?
