Dell Inspiron 17 5767 - Wifi timeout during upload
I'm having an incredibly frustrating issue where if I try to send an email with an attachment or try to upload a file over my wifi connection I get a timeout error. After the timeout my Internet connection drops and I can't view any web pages without disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi connection.
This only happens when attempting to upload an attachment of pretty much any size. Prior to this and after reconnection everything else works fine eg. browsing the web until I try to upload again. The problem does not occur when plugged into the wifi router with the lan cable and I'm now having to do this whenever I need to send emails with attachments.
I have tried un-installing the Intel wifi driver and all network driver and reinstalling plus reinstalling the latest drivers. I have also tried flashing with the latest BIOS. Basically all Dell drivers are up to date. Dells on line diagnostics dos not find any issue and neither does Microsoft diagnostics.
I also replaced my old ADSL router with a new one but the same problem persists. The problem does not occur when I use my old Dell Studio laptop or any of the other 3 family pc's in the house.
Could there possibly be a problem with the actual network or Wifi card?
I desperately need a solution to this please...
Thanks in advance
Stuart

I must also add that I have tried changing some of the settings in the advanced tab of the Intel Dual band wifi adapter's device settings as referred to in one of the Dell problem solving links including turning off the power management of the device and this seemed to have a positive effect for a short while where I suddenly managed to upload a 6MB file. Unfortunately it was short lived and the next time I tried I had the same issue.
I have absolutely no problems with downloading my emails or drivers or anything else off the web. Only uploads are a problem.
thanks again...

Thank you for your message. This seems to be an issue with settings/ applications installed on your computer.
Did you make any recent software change like installing a game or anti-virus?
Disable all startup items including your anti-virus & check if the issue persists.

Hello
I have bought an Inspiron 17 5767 Mid october, I have a very similar issue :
Downloading files, mails, web pages works perfectly.
When sending mail with either aol or alice zimbra mails :
with no attachment it is OK
with 3kb file size still OK
with 100kb file size does not work. but it works perfectly on other computers
I confirm that at any time I can ping the router 192.168.1.1 with success and response time near 1 or 2 ms.
BIOS, driver are upd to date and eventhough the Wifi card has been exchanged with a new one, with no success.

Thank you for your message.
This seems to be an issue with the operating system. Do you get any error message when trying to upload?
Does it happen only when adding attachments to an email? Or does it happen on all applications like uploading files to a Social Media site or another platform?
For my reference, please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my new Inspiron 17 5767 that I bought last month (Nov '17) - can't upload anything above a few KB without getting a long connection hang (no error message other than a generic one that the upload couldn't complete), and sometimes requiring a reboot just to download again.
1) I know it's not my Wi-Fi DSL router or the internet connection, as I have two other laptops (including another Dell) that have no issues uploading or downloading using the same router. Both those systems have Windows 7 x64.
2) I've tried disabling both antivirus (Avira) and the Windows firewall, and neither of those had any effect.
3) I installed an updated driver for the Qualcom Wi-Fi chipset, and that made no difference. I also tried an older driver from 2016, which also had no effect.
4) I tried disabling allowing the OS to shut down the Wi-Fi for power saving. Again, no effect.
5) I've tried a different browser, but that suffered the same issue.
6) I tried playing with the (very few) options available for the Qualcom driver settings, and none of those had any effect.
7) This issue was apparent almost since I first fired up the laptop on receiving it, so I don't think it's anything I installed.
Given other people are seeing this issue with the same laptop model, I'm wondering if there isn't some issue with a certain batch of the chipset. In any case, I really need a solution to this!

LBergman, can you upload files to another system on your local network?
Are you showing the Wi-Fi as a metered connection?
Are you showing the Wi-Fi network as private?
if you use the rich formatting posting form you can upload images to this site. Does that work? Try to pick one which might give some info about your situation.

Hi Saltgrass,
I can copy files over to one of my other systems through the Wi-Fi, although the transfer is fairly slow (~4Mbps), but it's always been that way. I've played with the Wi-Fi Metered Connection and Private /Public settings, and those don't seem to make a difference. I have them currently set to private and non-metered.
One thing that might be of note, is I've been using an internet speed test to help diagnose this issue (Google search) and after a reboot, I can complete the test (download and upload) just fine. But on subsequent attempts, the upload part will always time out, as does anything else involving a larger upload.
I just tried uploading an image, but it seems the mere act of working with the media upload dialog box was enough to cause the connection to time out. I had to reboot to get the connection back.

You have tried the network troubleshooter?
What speeds are you getting with the Speed Test?
If you have not done a complete uninstall, I would try that. First download the Wi-Fi driver for your device. Then go offline and uninstall the device in Device Manager. If it allows you to check a box to remove all drivers, check that.
Give it a few minutes to see if it replaces the named device with new drivers. If they are Microsoft drivers you are OK but if they are OEM type drivers, you might want to uninstall the device again and then reboot.
After the reboot, try reinstalling the drivers again. I am not a networking expert but it sounds like the system is generating errors during the uploads. If other devices seem to work normally on your network and the Driver reinstall does not help, you might think about another Wi-Fi card.
I don't want to upset you but my system seems to be uploading through Wi-Fi at 450 Mbps but I do have an 802.11ac system. ;)

Yep, I've tried that multiple times. It never finds an issue.
I went through the uninstall and reboot. Windows automatically reinstalled the drivers with the newer current version (was still running with the older one I had installed to see if that did anything). Unfortunately, still the same issue. :(
For (internet) downloads, I'll get around 12.5 Mbps and uploads (when they work) around 875 Kbps, which is right as expected. The curious thing is during the download speed test, it'll show about 250Kbps uploading at the same time. That doesn't seem to trigger the issue. Just the upload test (and any other uploading). Making me think it's when upload data rate exceeds download rate it what triggers it...?
Sadly, replacing the wireless card means a trip back to Dell, being it's a laptop. Least it's still under warranty.
Ha ha! Interesting you get that, as my wireless is 802.11ac as well.

I had the same problem. Tried all sorts of remedies including uninstalling and reinstalling numerous drivers and disabling pretty much everything in the startup. Nothing worked. Eventually I did a system reset as recommended by a Dell support expert. This worked. Problem is you have to reinstall all your apps, but in the end this was way less frustrating than the perpetually failed troubleshooting efforts. Here are the instructions to reset the OS if you want to give this a go: http://dell.to/2wCLdjG
I think in the end it may have been my printer driver which corrupted the wifi and so I did not reinstall the driver that came with the printer but used the native Windows 10 driver for the printer instead. No problems anymore and that was over a month ago...
Good Luck!!

Thanks!
If I go the reinstall route, I'll likely install a different version of Win 10 from scratch. Most definitely painful though! :)
Would really like to make sure it isn't a hardware issue first.
But if it was something I installed, I can't think of what it was, as the problem was noticeable nearly from the start.

Thought I would update this topic with what I discovered.
I did do a complete reinstall of Windows 10. With all the default windows drivers, the WiFi upload issue did not occur. I then proceeded to reinstall all the system and device drivers, doing an upload test after each one (except for the WiFi drivers, since the default Microsoft one seemed to be working) to see if I could nail down the offender. None reproduced the issue, so I moved on to the programs and utilities that had been pre-installed by Dell. Eventually I found the offender.
One of the programs was called "Smartbyte". As soon as that was installed, uploads killed the WiFi. On uninstall, everything worked again. Needless to say, that program is not ever going to see the light of day on my laptop again.

LBergman,
Just want to say thank you very much for sharing your solution!! Uninstalling the Smartbyte drivers from my recently-purchased Dell i5567-5274 fixed this very aggravating problem I was experiencing, as well. Kudos!!
