Precision M6600, non-supported Win 10 Aniversary issue

In Dell Precision M6600 upgrading from Windows 10 to windows 10 Anniversity Edition fails with error 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation.

I tried the following:

1. Uninstalled all unused software and installed latest Dell BIOS version A15 and drivers from Dell Web site.

2. In Device manager removed hidden devices.

4. Installed upgrade from USB3 drive by selecting keep files and application.

5. Verified that

    sfc /scannow

does not find anything:

    sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violati
    ons.

6. Tried DISM

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.10586.0

    Image Version: 10.0.10586.0

    [==========================100.0%==========================]
    No component store corruption detected.
    The operation completed successfully.

6. Tried from command prompt

    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

which worked without errors.

7. Tried

    bcdboot d:\windows /v

which re-creates recovery partition successfully

8. Used Windows 10 Upgrade troubleshooter.

I dont want to perfrom clean install, this requires re-installing lot of software.

How to find reason which prevents upgrade ?

Not sure is this related to the issue:

ATI Radeon video driver in disabled in device manager since ATI card does not work. There are no video drivers in device manager since Intel HD drivers from Dell and Intel sites does not install.
Windows 10 uses its builtin base video.

RE: How to fix 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 error upgrading to Anniversary Edition in Windows 10

Unknown. Dell never tested Windows 10 nor the Windows 10 Anniversary update on the 2011 M6600. Hopefully another user will post possible non-supported workarounds.

Former Windows 10 works OK. Issue is only with Anniversity upgrade.

driverview lists the following non-microsoft drivers. I tried to remove broadcomm fingerprint driver but problem persists. ATI Video card is not working so it is disabled in device manager.

RE: How to fix 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 error upgrading to Anniversary Edition in Windows 10

You seem to be able to find quite a bit of information, but maybe you haven't found the correct log to give you more exact status during the attempt.

You might try the link to see if it helps but the error is stated to be a generic rollback code.  I like to disconnect any devices I can and disable anything in the bios, especially Bluetooth.  If you aren't limited by space on your drive, maybe one of the logs will show what device or driver was having a problem.

technet.microsoft.com/.../resolve-windows-10-upgrade-errors

This link is from Upgrades and not just updates, but your error is mentioned.

RE: Precision M6600, non-supported Win 10 Aniversary issue

Than you. Great resource.

I tried clean boot but problem persists.

setupapi.dev.log contains lof of zeroes and non-ascii characters at end.

Last readable entry in this file is

>>>  [Change Device State - PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6720&SUBSYS_04A41028&REV_00\4&32831CB8&0&0008]

>>>  Section start 2017/01/31 16:55:06.509

     cmd: "C:\AMD\WU-CCC2\ccc2_install\Support64\CCC2App64.exe" -detection

    dvi: Enable Device: Config specific

<<<  Section end 2017/01/31 16:55:06.509

<<<  [Exit status: SUCCESS]

It looks like setup creates c:\AMD directory and installs display driver from it.

Maybe this causes failure since ATI video card is not working.

Windows 10 uses Windows basic video driver. I tried to upgrade it to Intel i7 3000 video driver but got error that this is not supported.

Precision M6600 BIOS does not contain any video card setting.

How to disable ATI video card or  driver installation and force Anniversity Upgdate to use Windows 10 base video driver like pre-1607 version uses?

Laptop heatsink screws go to motherboard through video card.  Removing video card requires probably some change in hardware.
