Dell Direct USB Recovery Issue

I have a new XPS 13 (9343 - Early 2015) and was playing around with Windows 10. Before playing with Windows 10 I created a recovery USB in Windows 8.1. When attempting to restore I got an error message saying the Recovery Environment was corrupted.

I reached out to Dell and then sent me Recovery Media on USB. When booting to the USB from Dell it goes straight to the standard Windows 8 Installation screen instead of going to the Dell Restore and Recovery interface as is shown in their video.

When attempting to install using the standard Windows 8 installer it will not allow you to install over the existing partitions. I could wipe all the partitions and start from scratch but I would like to get it back to 'Factory State.'

Any idea why the Dell Direct USB does not go to the Dell Restore and Recovery as shown in their videos and FAQ's?

Thanks

Mosi

Mosi,

I just had the identical experience !!!

the reply from dell as below:

Q. Is the Dell Direct USB Key available for all systems?
A. Click Here to check supported computer platforms.

http://www.dell.com/support/article/au/en/aubsd1/SLN179156/EN

According to this link only dell technical support will be able to tell you whether this modal ha a supported usb key.So based on my internal information the XPS 9343 does not have a direct usb key with the above features

I guess we just have to wait for the direct usb to be created for XPS13 2015, perhaps after the windows 10 being released? regardless the support definitely doesn't justify the flagship price tag.

cheers

Aaron
