INSPIRON 7520 WINDOWS 8 OEM

Good evening everybody,

After quite some unsucessful researches, I decided to finally post my question to make it clear...

I have a Dell INSPIRON 7520 which came with windows 8 inside (so that is what we call an OEM version, right ?) It has been given to me back in the days in France but now i live in Canada.

I would like to do a clean the drive and install Windows 8.1 right from the start since I found my system quite slow after doing a reset with the option given by the system itself, and after all the endless windows updates to make it to 8.1 ...

So, is there someone around here who can tell me the options I have to do that ? Can I ask Dell for a win8.1 disk ?

Thanks a lot !

Thank you for this reply but I would like to perform a clean install and drive wipe by myself...

I just found the topic by PhilipYip I'm thinking about trying that.

Besides, is there any chance I can perform a downgrade to 7 (I got a key) in my configuration ?

Thx again

Alex Eide,

You will need to reinstall Windows 7 as well as the drivers.

You can Download a Windows 10 RS1 .iso from Microsoft and clean install with your Windows 8.x OEM SLP key (it'll automatically be input by the installation media giving you the correct Edition of Windows 10). Windows 10 will automatically activate when online:

You can alternatively Download a Windows 8.1 with Update 2 .iso from Microsoft. You'll need to ensure your Edition matches, if it does your product key will automatically be input. If it doesn't you'll be asked for a key... These things Microsoft fixed in Windows 10 RS1 as per the suggestions in my guide:

Regarding Windows 7 you can only install it without buying a new license if you have a system shipped with Windows 8.x Pro. The Home Editions of Windows 8.x do not have OEM downgrade rights.
