Install Win 8.1 Pro on XPS 8700 from a Microsoft DVD instead of the Pre-installed Win 8.1

Hello,

I just bought an XPS 8700 Machine with Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it.

I want to Install Win 8.1 Pro on it from a Microsoft DVD.

The problem is , each time i try to install Win 8.1 pro from the dvd, the pre-installed version of Windows , re-loads and comes back.

I have tried deleting the partitions, and going with only one then installing the Win 8.1 Pro on it without any success.

Thanks for Helping me on this.

Regards.

You have an old DVD which has Windows 8.1 Pro and Home. When installing it automatically picks up your Windows 8.1 Home key and hence selects that edition automatically, installs and activates.

You can do this and then use get features with a new edition of Windows:

However I would recommend just downloading Windows 8.1 (with Update 1) Pro Installation Media and installing Pro directly:

Hi , thx for the reply.

My dvd has only win 8.1 Pro on it (as you suggested). My Dell XPS 8700 has the win 8.1  Blue preinstalled on it.

So when i install win pro from the media, the pre-installed one on the xps station gets back.

I already tried your first option and it gave me an error because the license i have is meant for a DVD new installation and not an upgrade.

Best regards.
