Just bought a new Dell laptop and need your help.

Hi guys, today I got a Dell Inspiron 17R that runs Windows 8 Pro.

The first thing I tried to do was to install the updates and upgrade to Windows 8.1 but it asks me for a product key, which I don't have because Windows 8 came with the laptop. I downloaded the magical jellybean keyfinder but it says that the product key is invalid!!! What should I do now??

Also, I want to clean install but I don't have the disc what can I do about that?

Unfortunately the Windows 8.1 installers don't accept the Windows 8.0 product keys; I have no idea as its meant to be an update/service pack.

For the retail product keys there is a workaround to download a Windows 8.1 .iso and use it to clean install.

I don't think the Windows 8.0 retail downloader will accept the OEM product key however. Some have reported that they got a clean install done with a TechNet .iso but unfortunately to obtain them from a legitimate source you need a TechNet/MSN subscription.
