RE: UPGRADE OR FREASH INSTALL WINDOWS 8.1 + FACTORY IMAGE

Hi,

Thank you for writing the Dell Community Forum.

The upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 is recommended as it would preserve your files on the computer. You can also perform a clean installation if you have the Windows 8.1 media.

If you perform a clean installation with the USB media, that would erase the factory image that came pre-installed with the computer.

Please check the following link for instructions and other support topics relating to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1:

RE: UPGRADE OR FREASH INSTALL WINDOWS 8.1 + FACTORY IMAGE

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Dell Back up and Recovery requires the files to be on the root directory to make it bootable. Hence you would need a blank USB hard drive/flash drive.

I wouldn't recommend a hard drive to create a factory image. Since the factory image is around 7GB in size, I would recommend to use a 8GB flash drive to create a backup media.
