Hello,

I bought my laptop whit windows 7 on it. Now, I have upgraded it to 8 and I found all the drivers in here except the USB 3.0 driver . And I can't plug my WD hard drive on my laptop. it doesn't even recognize it as USB 2.0. the problem is that all the ports is USB 3.0 on the inspiron 5520. So, I hope  you can help me with that .

Hi D7D7,

Windows 8 should install the USB 3.0 drivers by default from the Chipset drivers as a separate driver  is not available. You can try installing the Windows 7 driver in Compatibility Mode and check if the ports work properly. You can download the drivers from the following link:
http://dell.to/RJc1H6

Follow the steps provide below to install the drivers in Compatibility Mode in Windows 8:

1. Right-click the Setup icon and choose "Properties."
2. When the "Properties" dialog box appears, click the "Compatibility" tab and then click the "Run Compatibility Troubleshooter" button.
3. In the "Compatibility Mode" section, select the "Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For" check box and select the program's desired Windows version from the drop-down list.
4. Click "OK" and then run the file again.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. It is the second driver in the Chipset list. You can download the drivers directly from the following link:

Hi D7D7,

Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. I suggest you to update the BIOS and check if the hard drive is detected properly. You can download the BIOS from the following link:
http://dell.to/ZodNT6

This issue can also occur if the USB 3.0 cable is damaged internally. You may also check with a known good USB 3.0 cable. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I have almost the same problem with my 5520 R15. Have you found any solution for this annoying situation?

Thank you,

I wonder if you have actual faulty hardware.

Try returning it under warranty
