After cleaning PC with ccleaner, window xp stopped getting updates

i cleaned temporary folder, active x controls, system restore etc with Ccleaner... dont know what to do

i have window xp home edition installed with one time lisence installed from Dell, i tried to reinstall  active x control for win xp but it takes me to ¨page cannot be displayed¨, iam using internet explorer 7, i have broadband and other websites open perfectly without any problem and it display a message that unable to connect to the update website.

I followed the following microsoft help page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259 but when i click on the link for download active x control it takes me to page cannot be displayed.

 please help me if u know some good tips.
