D620 Reinstall

Hello

Could anybody explain the proper method for reinstalling the dell software for a D620?  I have all the software from dell to complete the job, just not sure if the chipsets need to be installed before the OS.  Any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks.

There are several procedures available on the web, even Dell has one in the support page for your computer.  Assuming you are speaking of a version of Windows, the general process is:

1.  Boot from the os CD (you should be able to do this for Win 98SE and later; Win 98 and earlier generally require bootable floppy disks)
2.  Select the menu item for a new installation
3.  When given the oportunity, select the menu item for deleting a partition
4.  Delete any partitions you find unless you have reason to keep them
5.  Create a partition (FAT32 for Win 9x os, NTFS for Win 2K and Win XP)
6.  Format the partition
7.  Select the menu item to install Windows
8.  Install the following:  a.  Notebook System Software if it exists for your computer and os  b.  Chipset Driver  c.  Video adapter driver  d.  Network interface adapter driver  e.  Soundcard driver  f.  Any remaining drivers in the order of your choice.

For the Dell guide start here and select your os.

This thread is 7 years old; a lot has changed since then for instance the release of Windows 7 and 8.1 and the demise of Windows XP. Moreover many links broke when Dell updated their drivers and downloads service.

If you want to clean install on a Latitude D620 see my Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 7:

Use the 32 Bit version as most processors supplied with this model don't support the 64 bit architecture:
